semester stängt --gone fishing

Small business close for vacation here in Stockholm. If I said "here in Sweden" it wouldn't be too crazy, after all, Sweden is a European country and rather family friendly. But now we're talking a capital city of Europe.

I just walked past the local pizza place owned and run by one of the invading Italians of the 'hood --long story, will post on it later. The sign says, "Semester Stängt" or Closed for vacation. I'm used to seeing the signs during the summer but it seemed a bit "bad for business" to be closed during the real season. It seemed reasonable when it was only for one week.

But that got me thinking. It is completely reasonable for a business to shut its doors, scribble a sign telling you why the lights ain't on, and not lose your client base. Fabulous.

Now as a customer, when I am too tired/lazy to nuke some meatballs and boil water for pasta and I want to order a pizza I am going to be annoyed that Luigi has gone off gosh only knows where, but...I am going to order a pizza the next time when he's back.

Good for Stockholm's small businesses and their understanding customers that plainly and simply we all need to just lock the doors, pull the blinds and write "Gone Fishin'" once in a while.
